qUCL and Queer Asia bring you the 1995 film Bugis Street directed by Yonfan. It follows the lives of transvestites in Singapore before the gentrifiction of Singapore’s Bugis Street area. Originally banned in Singapore, this film made a comeback at the Singapore International Film Festival (2015) with a R21 rating and a new title Bugis Street Redux. This screening is of the original 1995 film as it follows the life of sixteen year old Lien (played by vietnamese actress Hiep Thi Le) as she journeys from her home town of Malacca, Malaysia to Singapore.
