‘Queer’ Asia Conference 2016 was the first ever conference at SOAS, University of London to bring together activists, academics and artists working on LGBTQ+ issues in Asia together on a common platform.
The conference was a very successful event, attended by over 500 people from over 15 different countries including South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Lebanon, China, Singapore, Mongolia to name a few.
The conference hosted artists, film makers and performers to show case and provide a platform for queer film, art and performance on or from Asia. QA16 was the venue for the London premier of the renowned filmmaker Fan Popo’s Papa Rainbow, the documentary How Gay is Pakistan by the BBC and an activist panel with speakers from Iraq, Lebanon, Taiwan and China, as well as a performance by UK’s first Muslim drag queen Asifa Lahore.
