Building on the success of three Conferences (2016-2018) and two Film Festivals (2017 and 2018), we have decided to focus this year on our first ever ‘Queer’ Asia Summer Programme, bringing together academics, activists, performers, film-makers, and artists from divergent backgrounds and regional contexts. Running in tandem will be our 2019 Film Festival and 2019 Art Exhibition, housed at the British Museum, London.
The goals of the ‘Queer’ Asia summer programme are to diversify knowledge on queer experience and specific regions by bringing together ideas, learning, and strategies from other Asian contexts through engagement in active participatory dialogue. The inter-disciplinary and inter-media model of the summer programme is intended to broaden our understanding of thinking about queer and Asian intersectionality. ‘Queer’ Asia invites art submissions for an exhibition to be held in July 2019 at the British Museum.
Following the success of the 2018 art exhibition ‘Bodies x Borders’, ‘Queer’ Asia is seeking established and upcoming artists whose work explores LGBTQ+ content in Asia and/or within Asian diasporas. Artworks including paintings, sketches, photographs, mixed media (such as collages, montages etc.), sculptures, and installations, and videos are accepted. ‘Queer’ Asia is focused on providing an engaging and informative art exhibition. Artwork that is interactive with audiences would therefore be particularly welcome.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: February 28th 2019. The Exhibition will not consider late entries due to the volume of submissions.
PLEASE NOTE: TWO MAXIMUM works per artist (only ONE video or ONE audio artwork per artist)

The third annual ‘Queer’ Asia Film Festival showcases submissions from a range of film makers including activist groups, academics, professional and amateur filmmakers and will be held between 8th – 14th July 2019 at The British Museum and various central London locations.
As an annual celebration of films from across Asia including Asian diasporas QAFF has showcased a wide diversity of films from across Asia including China, India, Thailand, The Philippines, Myanmar, Lebanon, Singapore, and Indonesia in Central London venues including The British Museum, SOAS, University of London, and University College London.
The film festival has grown since 2017 with 11 films to 33 films in 2018 and with 500 footfall to nearly 2500 tickets sold in June 2018. QAFF has included a range of films from short films, features, documentaries, music videos, and performative cinema exploring queer and LGBT content in relation to Asia, Asian Disaporas, and themes relevant to queer struggles globally.
